I wanted to paint the beautiful olive groves of Palestine. Inexplicably what came forth instead were pine trees. In researching a name for the piece I discovered fast growing, drought tolerant pine trees were planted all over the land to cover up evidence of the Nakba in 1948.
Pine Trees have become an example of environmental ethnic cleansing. While tragic, this also offers hope that one day Palestine may live free on this besieged land.
